Ryan has reflux!

I took Ryan to the dr yesterday. Those of you who have been around at feeding time know he spits up a lot & it seemed to be getting worse. Also he was starting to hurt when he spit up. Dr Shah put him on Zantac & Bethanechol so hopefully this will get better.

Last night Racheal & I had a night out. We went to Kaylie's graduation. Congratulations Kaylie!!!

Church

We decided to make a trip to church yesterday without any help from Kaylie. She will be leaving in August for San Angelo so we will have to do it by ourselves eventually. We took Racheal to Sunday school & then went to the nursery to feed the babies. I fed Rylie, Randall fed Ryan & Laurie (the nursery worker) fed Reese. Ryan decided to poop while Randall was feeding him & it ran out all over him. So Randall had to go home & change clothes. I got Ryan all cleaned up & then he decided to spit up his entire bottle all over Laurie. Sorry Laurie!!! Then we go into church. Rylie starts fussing. I take him out & rock him to sleep. I go back into church & Ryan starts his extremely loud grunting. Randall takes him out. While Randall is gone, Racheal decides she needs to go to the bathroom. So Jennifer Henry took her. Then Rylie starts fussing again & then Reese starts. Jennifer held her for a while & put her back in her seat. Then she starts again. I already have Rylie in one arm so Jennifer helps me pick up Reese so I can hold her with the other arm. If only I had one more arm!!! Thanks Jennifer for all your help during church.

OK I am totally freaked out right now. We just found out that Rylie did not qualify for Medicaid which probably means the other 2 are not going to qualify. We can appeal their decision, but getting the government to change their minds is doubtful. All of their bills together probably totally around $500,000 and does not count my hospital bills. I don't know what we are going to do. Please pray for us.

.Reply to Questions

Here are some more questions that have been asked:

What kind of diapers? Right now the boys are wearing size 1 & Reese is wearing newborn. Right now we are doing ok on diapers. We got a lot at the shower.

What kind of formula? Reese is still on Similac Neosure for premies and we are doing ok on it. Dr Shah gave us a lot samples so hopefully we have enough to last until she gets switched to regular formula. The boys are on Similac Advance or Enfamil LIPIL with iron.

I think everyone is feeling better! I hope. So far no more throw up!

Well the last 2 days have been pretty rough. Randall think the boys have had a stomach bug. It started with Rylie yesterday. After every feeding he would through up the whole bottle. I was having one of those post-pregnancy emotional days. At the 2:00 feeding I just lost it & balded like a baby. Randall took him & cleaned him up while I fed Ryan. We fed him pedialyte for the next several feedings & then during the night half pedialyte & half soy formula. He has been fine today. Then this morning Ryan started it. I hope tomorrow is not Reese's turn.

Thank you to Christy M for the truck load of food she brought us last night. It should last us at least a week. Also thanks to the ones at church that brought us food last week.

Also thanks to Jill (a fellow triplet mom in Glen Rose) for the bottle props. I got them today. She propped her 3 in boppy pillows & fed them at the same time. I am about to try Rylie & Reese & see how we do.

Bottles & Diapers!!!!

Everyone has been asking about how many bottles & diapers we got through. We go through 24-30 diapers a day depending on how poopy they are for the day. The boys are wearing size 1 and Reese is wearing newborn diapers. We use 24 bottles a day & a can of formula a day. I usually fix bottles for a 24 hr period at one time. We also do lots & lots of laundry. I use to do all of our laundry every 3-4 days. Now I do a couple of loads every day. It is amazing how much laundry 3 little babies make. Below is a picture of the bottles for a 24 hour period.

Our week

Kenzey, Racheal and Makenna
Tuesday was Racheal's last day of Tuesday school. Thank you to Shelley, Tracy & Carrey for taking Racheal back & forth to school. Their program was that night. They did a great job. When it was over, it was pouring rain & there were very strong winds. We got soaked taking all the kids to the van.

Friday Racheal & I decided to go to the last MOPS (Mother of Preschoolers) meeting until September. It was a lot of fun. Then we went to Walmart & the mall--just mommy & Racheal time. Then when we got home she let loose. She bruised Rylie's cheek & stuck her finger in his mouth & scratched his gum. Then later she hit Ryan. The joys of having a hard headed preschooler. I know there will be payback one day from little brothers!

Saturday Racheal danced on the square. They did a good job considering the sun was in there eyes & they were all squinting so hard they could barely see. Thank you to Genia Johnson who was brave enough to stay with all 3 babies so we could go watch Racheal dance.

Pedi Appointment

The triplets had a pediatrician appointment today. Ryan weighs 8 lbs 13 oz & is 20 1/2 inches. Rylie weighs 8 lbs 9 oz & is 20 inches. Reese is 6 lbs 13 oz & is 19 inches. The boys were changed to regular 20 calorie formula. Reese is still on Neosure 22 calories for preemies until she gets to 8 lbs. Our next appointment is July 7 & then he will probably start them on rice cereal. They all 3 got their 2 month shots today.

Today was Racheal's last day of preschool & she has her program tonight. She is really excited.

Eye appointment

The triplets had their eye appointment this morning in Brownwood. He said their eyes looked great. We had to wait almost 2 hours in the waiting room while their eyes dilated. During that time, it was feeding time. The boys are extremely picky about the bottles being warm. They were room temperature so they were gagging & spitting most of it out. Then Rylie decided to spit up everything he had taken all over Randall. Formula baths--aren't they great!

Racheal & her babies! (Ryan, Reese, Rylie)

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! The triplets made their first trip to church. Thank you Kaylie for coming over this morning and helping us feed & get them dressed. We couldn't have made it there without you. I got flowers at church this morning for being the mom with the most kids there. I never thought I would be the mom with the most kids!

The triplets are together again!!

We made it home about 9 last night. The night went pretty well. Reese was a little fussy. It was the first time she had been in the dark & it was much quieter than in the NICU. Ryan was a little fussy also since he had to wait longer to get his bottle. He is usually the patient one. We are still taking turns getting up so that we can get some sleep, but it takes 1 1/2 hours to feed all 3 babies.

As you can imagine it is quite crazy at our house, so we will try to up date the blog 1-2 times a week.

Feel free to come see the babies! Feeding times are 2, 6 & 10.

We are going home!!!!

They gave us the option of going home today or tomorrow & of course we said TODAY! So we are loading everything back up. We are waiting on the nurse practioner to write the discharge orders which should be around 2:30 or 3. Then we will be headed home!

Thursday, May 8, 2008

Reese is continuing to do great. The nurses say she is sucking down the 60 mls. She has had 3 desat episodes in the last 24 hrs, but they said they have been really quick & she has self resolved. Let's hope those don't keep her from coming home this weekend.

Great news!

Reese had her feedings increased to a bottle every feeding. They will probably do the car seat test tomorrow & she will hopefully come home Friday or Saturday.

Reese is improving!

Reese was taken off of oxygen today around 11 & her feedings were increased to 2 of 3 (2 bottles then 1 tube feeding). Her last feeding was her first without oxygen & the nurse said she did great. Her oxygen level did not drop below 95%. Way to go little Reese!!

Another tough day for Reese

Well Reese had a bad night last night. Around 10 she desated & her heart rate dropped. They tried stimulating her, but that didn't work so they had to bag her. She did this again around 2 but responded from stimulation. She was put back on oxygen. Shelley talked to the dr this morning. He seems to think that she needed blood. Her red blood count had dropped since Saturday. She was given blood this afternoon and they are weening her off of oxygen again. Hopefully this will work. The draw back to getting blood is in 4-6 weeks when her body starts making its own red blood cells she may do the same thing again & by then she will be home. This is something that we will have to watch closely. She now weighs 6 lbs 1.8 oz.

New pictures

This is Reese yesterday after her bath and after she pulled out her feeding tube. She has changed so much even from last weekend.Below is Racheal and Reese--Our 2 little girls!
Reese was put back on 0.1 l of oxygen this morning. We are not sure why they did this. The nurse said her oxygen level was staying in the 80's. The dr wrote specific orders not to put her back on oxygen & 0.1 liters is basically nothing. I think she is having the same problem Ryan had. She is congested & when they suction her out she can breath better. She weighs 5 lbs 13.9 oz.

Reese had a rough day

Reese was wide awake when Shelley got there today. She gave her a bath. While she was getting a bath Reese managed to pull her feeding tube out. She got her dressed and held her for about an hour. Reese was wide awake the whole time. Shelley gave her a bottle. She started out great. Then she started desating & her heart rate dropped. The nurse said to stop & they finished the feeding through her tube. But she continues to desat and have brady episodes with her tube feeding. They did a CBC & retic count to see if that showed anything. Randall said the lab was fine. Randall visited Reese tonight and fed her. He said she did ok. She did not have any brady's. She did desat some, but like Randall said she is just now learning to breath and suck. She has been on oxygen for so long and when she would desat the nurses would turn up the oxygen so she did not have to learn to breath.

Pictures

Since the boys have come home, we are so busy, it is difficult to be able to find time to post pictures. Here are a few pictures that are recently taken.

This first picture is of Racheal and Cinderella at Racheal's birthday party.

This is Racheal's birthday cake.

This next picture is Kaylie with Rylie. Kaylie has been a big help since the boys have been home.

This is a shot of the boys. Ryan is on the left and Rylie is on the right.

This next picture is of Reese. She is in her crib at the hospital.

Here, Racheal is holding Reese.

We will try to upload more pictures as time allows.
We are on our way back to Ft Worth today. Hopefully the next time we make the trip it will be to pick up Reese! She was having problems eating after the removed the oxygen. For several feedings she was desating & only taking about half of her bottle. The nurse wanted to put the oxygen back on for feedings, but the dr said no that doing that could mask other problems. So he wrote orders to give the rest of her feeding through the tube if that happened. Yesterday afternoon she started doing better. She is still desating some when she eats, but if she is paced then she has been finishing her bottles.

The boys are doing better also. I swithced to soy formula & they aren't spitting up as bad. Racheal's rash is also much better.

I know everyone is wanting pictures. I will stay on Randall to add some. They are getting chunky!
